Author Guidelines

AJCN is an open access journal, all articles will be available immediately and permanently free for everyone to read and download. To provide open access, AJCN has an open access fee (also known as article processing charge or APC) which needs to be paid by the authors or on their behalf by their institution.

All manuscripts are submitted and processed using the online manuscript handling system.

Peer review and research integrity

The journal operates a single, anonymised review process. All contributions will be initially assessed by the editor for suitability to the journal. Submissions deemed suitable will then be sent to two independent expert reviewers to aid in the assessment of the article’s scientific quality. The Editor is responsible for all decisions regarding acceptance and rejection of all articles. The Editor’s decisions are final. AJCN follows the COPE guidelines for peer reviewers.

AJCN endorses the Singapore Statement on Research Integrity, which list the responsibilities of researchers in upholding research integrity. Authors are required at all times to uphold responsible and ethical research practices. This includes reporting methodology accurately, clearly and with sufficient detail such that findings can be independently confirmed and to retain the data for at least 3 years after study completion. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the article is an honest, accurate, and transparent account of the study being reported; that no important aspects of the study have been omitted; and that any discrepancies from the study as planned (and, if relevant, registered) have been explained.

Authors are responsible for applying for permission from the relevant publisher(s) for both print and electronic rights and are responsible for paying any permissions fees. In addition to providing proof of permission to the Editorial Office, authors must include appropriate wording in the figure legend, or a table note to indicate the source of the material.

Supplementary material is governed by the same copyright transfer policies as the article; if supplementary material has been reproduced from another source, the authors must provide documentation granting permission for its reuse in AJCN.

To monitor compliance with the journal’s requirements regarding attribution, accepted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software.
